merry white Christmas!

Wi-fi in Royale Tagaytay clubhouse! so glad you've read and written back. Happy to hear from you even if we didn't get to talk. will text you after this.

iola's loud cry sent the attendants to our table. They kept running back and forth, how one will call the medic and the other the nurse on duty and one came to say they're coming. I remember even assuring them that it's okay, hans and i are doctors. But i'm so glad they still came with this big first aid tool box! as soon as i saw the blood on iola's forehead, i asked hans for a towel from iola's bag. then i asked her to ask for ice. when the first aid box came, it was just automatic - i asked for betadine, then steristrips. God's leading and direction lang talaga. when it was time for suturing, we went inside their trauma room (which looked traumatic). they turned on the huge lights and the table was at the center and i was carrying iola and we were surrounded by people in white. but instead of crying (like we're so used to seeing with other children), iola was laughing out loud! and then i realized it was the 2 big restrainer/bouncer-nurses in masks that made her laugh! they must have reminded her of swiper or something. that released a lot of tension right away. before we laid her on the table we started to play dora. dora was playing while she was wrapped in the blanket, and the portable dvd was draped too so she could still watch. i was hugging her and was looking at her face under the drape the whole time. except for the anesthesia, not a hint of pain for the whole procedure! praise God talaga! after the procedure, she didn't even want to leave the table -- the dora episode wasnt finished yet.

Tomorrow morning we're heading for manila to have iola's sutures removed. kinakabahan na naman ako...

super deep white Christmas ka pala! wow! have you tried shovelling snow? its pretty cold here in tagaytay with the wind blowing pa but i could not imagine what kind of cold you have over there. hope you have a picture by the fireplace :)

i remember seeing a snowflake too on the plane on the way to britain with aj, so i can relate with you! snowflakes, ducks, jars... wow. i praise God with you for all the wonderful blessings and joys He's sending your way :)

haven't tested iola consistently, but i've seen her read words that she hasn't seen in the video before. but i have to check, will let you know agad. i'll ask ate nona to ask tess -- her friend from singapore, the baby can read progenitor hehehe

hope you could upload pictures here too. talk to you later!

love,
jo

Kwentos

1st line pa lang dami ko na iniisip na heart attack scenarios. Foremost was iola missing among the crowds at shangrila! 5 seconds of looking around for ielle among clothes rack feels like 5 years! As i read the kwento, na-amaze ako na you had the presence of mind to put sterile strips. I mean yung fact na you were able to find help at di kayo lang. At naisip mo pa yung options na baka pwede si ate louie, etc. wow! Ikaw talaga ang best person to be around pag may crisis :) So paano pla nakanood si iola ng dora? Under the drape? Was she scared when the drape was placed? Ilang stitches? Since si Gianina palagi kong kasama and her crowd are mommies, minsan "payabangan" ng horror stories. Like yung isa naipit nya kamay ng anak nya upon closing the car door kasi the car seat was placed in a way na kaya abutin ng anak nya yung door. Yung isa naman needed stitches din kasi while in a hotel, the child ran then fell hitting the head on the edge of the table. As in all mommies have horror stories so welcome to the club! Parang hazing sa initiation nga lang ang feeling. As i was imagining iola, adorable pa rin in the middle of all this! haay.. that webcam...

In over 20 years, ngayon lang uli nagkaron ng severe weather sa grand rapids. Snow storm every other day in one week so we're snowed in! 12 inches na ang snowfall! We're supposed to go sled/skiing 24 am pero staying indoors is strongly advised. AY! Yesterday, i saw a snowflake! As in a single snowflake on the car's window. All along i thought you needed a microscope or some process to separate snowflakes and see one. Kasi puro white fluffy snow lang nakikita ko. Somehow maybe the conditions were right coz pa isa isa talaga sila and na appreciate ko very much kasi they lasted a few minutes before melting. Magical! To think each one is unique. Joy!

Oh, when we attended the pinoy docs party they had a raffle. Prize was overnight stay at JW Marriot hotel. As the host picked the coupon and had a hard time reading the name(ianthe), i knew we won! A merry christmas! Maraming ganun si God this season for me..little details that bring joy to my heart. Like seeing a flock of ducks fly above my head as they land for the pond. Praise Him from all blessings flow!

Teng shares the apartment with a couple who's son is 7months old. I was raving about baby can read. Ali, the mom (classmate ni teng dati sa UP) asked if iola can read phonics na di kasama sa video. Yung tipong she figured out na B with A sounds ba. If she's ever applied na the concept without yung factor na she saw the word before so she's sightreading. Yung tita kasi ni baby matthew ay nagpPHD right now dito for child development. Medyo may criteria. hehe..
I think gusto pa nya yata i-discuss sa class nila. hehe.. ikaw ang pinaka-source namin. Si Pat, yung dad is catholic pero he reminds me of aj a lot. IT din and parang catholic version ni aj. Yung sobrang considerate, etc. Good people, nakakamangha minsan :) uy, haba na pala nito! sege, muah! watched jars pala, church venue, christmas concert :) muah!!!

:(

i almost had a heart attack last night. i don't even know how to tell the story. we were in shangri-la makati to have a picture taking for iola by their pretty christmas tree like last year. hans came with us. aj went to the comfort room as hans and i ordered coffee. hans was taking pictures of iola, then i leaned close to her so that i could be included in the next picture. in the blink of an eye, iola bumped her head on the coffee table. it seemed like she reached out to grab something but hit her head instead. it was a loud cry, and i thought it was just like any other bump. but when she raised her head, blood gushed and my heart fell to the ground. it was a laceration, around 1.2 cm, to the lateral epicanthus of her right eye. shang had steristrips and after we applied it we left for medical city because she needed suturing.

i was unbelievably calm while in shangrila but really broke down in the car. we're so familiar with the scene -- restraining a screaming, hurt, confused baby for suturing while parents look on or look away crying and in pain too. and i couldn't believe it was happening to our dearest precious one. the thought naman of sedating her or letting her undergo GA was horrifying too. it was a long ride to medical city, but thank God iola was already calm and the bleeding had stopped.

ophtha's assessment was not different from ours. the materials were made ready right away, but we asked for some time for there were calls to be made. papa wanted a senior resident to do it, i was hoping naman that ate louie could come and do it herself. however, ate louie wanted ophtha to do it and we just negotiated for very fine suture to be used instead. i believe it was the Holy Spirit who inspired me to ask jeeboy to come and bring papa's portable dvd because you know what? God through dora saved the day! iola was unbelievably calm and happy throughout the procedure which took only 15 minutes. she cried only during the anesthesia, but was her usual interactive self the rest of the way! it was so funny and calming and relieving to see her smile and laugh underneath the drape, to hear her count with dora and call out boots and swiper and to almost dance with the dancing trees. the doctors and nurses were amazed and amused. i was so relieved and grateful.

hans was taking pictures before and after, sayang walang during. i can't yet bring myself to look at them so i'm deferring posting them here. there are moments when i'm still depressed yet God's comfort and encouragement would always shine through. i remember how during pastoral prayer a few hours prior, i prayed that God would continue to protect iola. and then it happened. for a moment i was confused and asked why God's protection wasn't there, until aj pointed out that God protected iola's eye, and from worse unimaginable things happening. syempre, you could imagine the lies that the enemy wants me to believe -- negligence, poor parenting, etc etc... but i won't give in, i will not be shaken, i ask God for forgiveness for my failures and for His grace and mercy to cover my inadequacies and faults, and then, by His grace, forget what lies behind and press forward.

writing this to you has helped a lot. thank God for aj's office laptop. our personal laptop crashed by the way. so webcam and headset are still in the box. iola is fine naman and as if nothing happened. there's a bit of swelling but not naman blackeye. aj calls her "pacquiao." please continue to pray for her healing and comfort and sana no scar.

2008 has been a year of testing as ate nona calls it. hope to process this coming new year. hugs.

title

No access to internet (walang nagpapahiram ng laptop/pc) the past few days we've been staying at lagmay to help out with the instant surprise na di naging surprise OC Christmas party at home so that papa could join. whew, that was a long sentence. Back at proj2 using aj's laptop. just wanted to write down a few lines before i tuck iola to sleep, just to let you know that you are thought of, prayed for and dearly loved. dami kwento to come. so glad the way God worked in your latest test. love love love

I wanted to vent, share, plead for prayer and advice but decided against it. I wouldn't want a reminder of this issue everytime i open this blog. Still can't stop crying and i'm tired and confused. help.

Spacebar! I couldn't stop grinning when i read that coz even before your p.s. i already knew what you meant. It's the connection talaga! Somehow at the back of my mind i sensed the editor in you would cringe. hahaha! Still smiling when i think of it :)

Nku, iola is jumping on beds and communicating na talaga! I can imagine pero di ko ma grasp, i still think of her as she was the last time i saw her. Need that webcam nga. hehe..

As for aral, Gianina picks me up everyday at 1pm then we go to the lib till 6pm. Next week i hope to go with Teng naman sa lib sa hospital, whole day yun. Not yet really into aral pero i feel na the difference of being here as compared to studying there. May nag offer din ng 200GB worth of studying materials so that helps. i hope, i hope..!

Right now, i'm waiting for the ..ay! gotta go! matthew is crying na! muah!

first night back

iola was unbelievably distraught and fussy on our way back home. Nothing could be done to distract her. She had just woken up when we brought her immediately to the car. I was driving ate nona's car, aj was driving jed. Its as if something in the 2 cars frightened her, she didn't want to settle in either of the two. We had to stop at the side of the road and call for backup. Mama and jeeboy came so that mama could drive the car and iola would sit on my lap. By and by she relaxed and we were able to go home smoothly.

At home, its a good thing that dora with the musical stars toy was waiting for her. This helped her transition back here. When she saw the bed, she immediately bounced on it, to our great relief! She went to sleep easily.

Something happened though in the middle of the night - the reason for which I'm writing this entry. iola would usually wake up at some unholy hour for her "night" milk. Last night, with her eyes still closed and while clutching my arm, she just cried, "na-na-na-na-naaay..." to which I whispered, "it's okay, nanay is here" to which she immediately replied with eyes still closed..." is here, is here..." hehehe. i didn't want to forget and i wanted to share it with you hence this entry :)

we'll be going out with maroh in a few. She's back from her mission stint in Bicol to spend time with us, and for us to get to know the BF hehehe

s p a c e b a r

Imagine my delight when there was not one, not two, but three entries waiting for me when I opened our blog. I used to check this everyday for about a week since its creation, but with the demands on my time and lack of access the past few weeks, I was only able to check my official email in case of work. So happy, happy, happy you've taken to writing here and mighty glad you liked the idea!

I chose the lighthouse theme for our blog because it reminds me of the song by Chris Rice that I will be singing come next year. You know what I mean. And there was a twinge in my heart when you wrote about the lighthouse being the symbol there. It was that connection again.

I loved watching your videos and seeing the recent pictures you posted in multiply. Now I have a clearer picture of your picturesque Michigan, and that glorious snow. Wow. I wonder when getting over and real settling begins for you :)

iola and Annabelle seems to be getting along fine. I've devised a plan, a schedule for us so that I could ensure quantity and quality time with iola even with help around. I'll be sole yaya in the mornings and she'll be main yaya in the afternoons with me still around of course. iola is nowadays so maka-nanay and is starting to show her malambing side and i wouldn't want an ounce of it transferred to her yaya! hehe. But so much more than that, I want her to grow up with me as her main yaya, the same way we grew up with mama.

I want to write more but I have to start packing for our great big transfer. Please pray for that job, it would really help augment our income if i get that very ideal job (part-time, home-based, in line with my calling). Next time, I wanna hear about your studies. Love much.

p.s. Please learn to use the spacebar in between punctuation marks hehe :) i t ' s n o t t h a t h a r d :)

adrian

I babysat for adrian yesterday and will babysit again today! He's the same age as iola, May din pinanganak so parang i'm watching iola's milestones na rin.hehe.. He knows his abc and numbers too tapos i think you have the same baby signs video coz we watched it yesterday and i saw your "more" sign. saya! We went around yesterday so i could get a sense of adrian's activities. Ay, grabe, nakakainggit ang resources for toddlers! Mura ang gymboree and may library for children na may magagandang classes everyday for babies and toddlers, right before the age they go to school. The library is beside the park and lake tapos ang area is called gas light coz ang street lights ay gas pa talaga! as in streetlamp na fire! Kung pwede ko lang bitbitin d2 c ielle for 3 months!haay! Part of adrian's bedtime habit is reading his lola's Mateo series. hehe.. madaldal at parang maliit na gradeschooler. He eats by himself tapos sobrang dali utusan to clean up his toys. Not yet terrible twos so very obedient pa.hehe..he calls me "ikay", nung una tita kikay pa pero mas nasiyahan sya sa ikay.

aftermath

hmmm...mukhang u haven't read the previous letters.hehe...
update-was on the my 1st store, meijer, at 12am last friday and after 5 hours, guess what i
bought?
... a digital picture frame, 2 hood towels for ielle and a purple wrap for daph. nagpuyat
ako for that, got the items then waited 5hrs for the register to open.hehe..
Dapat pipila ako sa best buy to buy dyma's laptop pero it was freezing, couldn't do it.
Instead, when i did finally get in, guess what i bought, 2 sets of cool earphones. Felt
frustrated that i didn't get to buy big items so i went back to meijer and bought mama a
portable sewing machine. Went home, slept for a few hours then went out again to toys
r us. Finally, got to spurge on ielle, bought her 13K worth of toys. The following day was
still shopping day at a chain of outlet stores one hour away. Banana Republic was 50%
off all items, got shades, blouse and pants. Liz Clairborne on sale too so got bag
and shades. Coach was 50% off too so got a purse. Nike on sale so got rubber shoes. But
my biggest catch was a long goose down coat from Eddie Bauer coz the following day it
snowed and i wud've frozen walking to the parking lot. As you can see, my black friday
started weakly but it ended happily ever after. Praise God for a generous sister!hehe..

p.s. sorry sa details.i don't want to forget my 1st black friday so parang journal blog na letter na din sa iyo.hehe..hmm..gawa kaya ako ng US blog for poor recall's sake :)

black friday

This friday, people will be camping out overnight in the snow in queue waitin for 5am store openings. Thursday is thanksgiving and i just found out that black friday means huge nationwide sale! Hundreds of dollars will be slashed from the original prices. All kinds of merchandise. All stores. And i haven't got a clue on what to buy. It is very frustrating! How i wish i have your shopping skills this week! All i can come up with is the 10,000php northface jacket i saw in shangrila, edsa. Gameplan is you're supposed to know what you want from which store then beeline for it when the store opens. The alternative is my newbee plan - go to i dunno pa what store, go around and buy whatever catches my fancy. Haay, opportunity of a lifetime and i have no want or need that i can think of indulging.
Any ideas?

apt and funny!

This blog is a great idea! And the name..hahaha! It is us! Is that a lighthouse in the corner? Did you know that the lighthouse is like an official emblem here? Just the other day at the mall, the chairs at the foodcourt had lighthouse design all over it. Apparently, michigan has historic lighthouses in abundance. So very apt!
Winter wonderland is playing tricks on me. In the land of obese, i lost my tyan in my 1st week of stay here. Hip hop abs na lang kulang, perfect na.hehe..I sleeep for 15hours thinking i still need more. It's like sleeping in coz of the wonderful pitter patter of rain. It's dark at 3pm and the warmth of being under the comforter lulls you more into deep sleep. Plus, no hunger pangs. In dupil, we'd usually cook rice at midnight to go with our spam, here, a meal a day and i feel as if i'm set for the day. These are the surprises i had no hints of at all!
As for the beauty around me, the ponds are starting to freeze, but i still saw a group of graceful swans gliding. They say there are still deers in the woods around us. That i'm looking forward to seeing. In this picturesque place, guess what? A prometric center for a neighbor, walking distance. Prometric is where i will take my exam! Back home, prometric has only two offices, makati and cebu. Here, it's almost beside our home. God sure has a perfect way of reminding me why i'm here. I pass by it every time i go out.hehe..
Oh, i still am looking forward to your treat from your sweldo.hehe..thai silk o abe? Is this the internet accenture job o something else? Sege, update, update...aral time.muah!

winter wonderland

Dearest K,

I thought they hid the tv so you would have no distractions? oh my, that cable plus plus TV would be such a distraction! Be careful, snow white :)

So will you be having a white Christmas? wow. That's an experience that we can only dream of. Please bring a camera with you all the time so that I could imagine the "picturesque" that you're talking about. I am excited for your adventures! Please send a picture of you in winter gear.

I got an email yesterday and I think I got the job. After months and months of waiting, things are finally moving on. Don't know what the terms are yet, but the boss wants me to start working already it seems. Praise God! A day before receiving the email, I prayed that if the job is really where God wants me to be, then He would let them contact me without me following-up on them. Then the email came! Will update you once I get more details.

I have to finish my homework due tomorrow before iola wakes up, so hanggang dito na lang muna. Hope you enjoy our blog format :)

love love,
jo

from michigan

dear bestfriend,
Spent the whole day by myself coz teng is on duty. For the next 8days,while the baby's grandparents are away, i will mostly have the house to myself. They have a huge tv with comcast(cable na maraming plusplus). So you know what to pray for me na.hehe..
Forgot how to compute for GWA. I mean i never did compute for it ever. The flight was ok until the movie mama mia came on.haay grabe, lunok lang ako ng lunok so i wouldn't cry. My ielle moment. That was the only time my heart ached coz God in his graciousness filled me with so much excitement, looking forward to the new experience na i didn't feel homesick. Ay, no more flu..ready to start rigorous study(sana!sana!).
Pag may webcam ka na,nku, gotta hear iola's abc!naiimagine ko na how her lips will curl into a smile while reciting.A so adorable talaga!Went around yesterday and experienced the freezinng cold! If i ever become homeless here,5min lang patay na ko sa lamig! Brrrr! The town is picturesque though. I'm excited to explore the neighboring towns, gotta learn how to use the gps first though.hehe.. Feeling ko i'm off to college again, away from home. Anyway, my number is still the same, nag work ang roaming! will get a new fone tom coz i forgot to bring ericson charger. txt kita once fone is up and running.
sege, gotta go! tnx for the mail!muahhh!

greetings from the philippines

Yesterday i asked aj if you found a new best friend there already. He said i should give it at least a week. hehe. i was just teasing him, of course

how are you? i hope no more flu and feeling better. how was your flight? pls dont forget to send me your ofw number

School started yesterday for me. Its so funny because we're only 2 students in the class. I have to be super alert, attentive and participative. Mahirap pa naman magbigay ng exams ang mga prof ko for this class. I only have 3 units for this sem. 2 units semestral, then 1 unit for the 4th quarter only. Got my grades na rin sa last sem. It was so much better than what I used to get in med school, but, I have to admit I felt sad pa rin when I saw my grades. By the way, how do you compute for the GWA UP-style?

iola is sooo cute reciting the alphabet. While we were texting that night, she was in her crib, reading a book about the letter B. All of a sudden i heard her recite the whole alphabet!!! It was pretty amazing. na-record ko but beginning from letter G lang. Now she does it all the time, even supplies the missing letters when you stop. last night, she cut her lip again when her foot slipped sa rails of the crib and i'm not sure if she bit her lower lip of if she hit the wooden rail. it bled and bled. traumatic pa naman for me ang lips. ang tagal bago nag-clot kasi she kept moving her lips! i pray it won't scar.

my tremors haven't stopped. putting it together with my palpitations, i'm thinking i should have my tsh checked again. please keep me in your prayers. you know me naman

o siya. dito na lang muna. have to finish my laundry before iola wakes up. where oh where is the helper i've been praying for?

will be getting that webcam really soon...

love lots,
jo
